The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector doubled its income in Colombia during the past five years.
Outsourced Services are defined as the delegation of business processes in a great variety of industries and comprise the following subsectors: Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), such as Contact Center, Call Center, Back Office or Human Resources; Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO), i.e., Cloud Services, Data Center, and Software as a Service; Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), telemedicine, market research, engineering, and remote education services.
The target market of the BPO companies in Colombia will focus on the segments of engineering services, research and development, IT services and BPO services with added value. Thanks to factors such as the availability and quality of labor, the advanced infrastructure, bilingualism, and the neutral accent, Gartner confirmed for the third time that Colombia is one of the leaders in this industry.
The United States, Spain and Chile were the major export destinations for BPO services and since 2005, having as a result that the Business Process Outsourcing in Colombia doubled as for income and exports.
Colombia has the infrastructure of five undersea cables and a 550Gpbs connection that allow it to offer competitive prices at the international level. There is also the advantage that the strategic geographic location provides, since the country is amid five time zones.
The main exports destinations of these services in 2015 were: The United States with USD$102.16 million (34.8% share), Spain with USD$90.49 million (30.8%), Chile with USD$29.09 million (9.9%), Argentina with USD$24.17 million (8.2%), and Mexico with USD$18.27 million (6.2%).
